Happy Halloween!

Are you going trick-or-treating? It will be our second time this year. Last year people gave me looks, because Michael was sleeping on my shoulder and I was asking for candy, lol. This year hopefully I'll get less looks and more candy :D
P.S. Thanks son!

Chicken Schnitzel Recipe

I'm plain horrible at cooking. I've mastered a couple dishes and I'm pretty good at appetizers, but when it comes to following a recipe, for some reason nothing ever works out!
I'm addicted to the Australian Masterchef cooking show competition, way better than the American version. Recently, they began airing Masterchef Junior. I was completely blown away by how well kids 8-12 can cook. I don't even know how the ingredients they cook with!
Anyways, they were teaching TV viewers how to make a simple Chicken Schnitzel. I told myself that I'll give this a try and if this doesn't work out - I would give up on cooking completely.

For once, I bought fresh herbs, which made all the difference in the taste, but they are also very pricey! I followed the recipe & ingredients and guess what? It turned out absolutely delicious! I was amazed that I produced something so yummy. Even my super picky kid had a couple bites.

I'm very happy to share this recipe with you

Ingredients:
200g crustless sourdough bread, diced
50g parmesan cheese, grated
6 sprigs thyme, leaves only
2 sprigs rosemary, leaves only
2 tablespoons parsley leaves
Pinch salt and pepper
1 chicken breast fillet (use 2, otherwise you'll have lots of crumbs left over)
1 egg
2 tablespoons milk
70g plain flour
80ml olive oil
40g butter, chopped

1. Process sourdough and parmesan in a food processor until fine crumbs. Add herbs and season with salt and pepper, process until finely chopped. Transfer to a plate.

2. Cut the chicken breast horizontally into thin steaks. Place in between 2 sheets of cling film and lightly pound with the flat side of meat mallet to flatten.

3. Whisk egg and milk together in a bowl. Coat one piece of chicken in flour and shake to remove excess. Then dip the chicken into the egg mixture. Then coat the chicken in breadcrumbs, pressing firmly to coat. Repeat with remaining pieces of chicken and crumbing mixtures.

4. Heat oil in a large frying pan over medium heat, cook chicken in batches, for 4-5 minutes each side or until tender and golden. Reduce heat to low and add butter around the chicken. Cook until crispy, remove and place on to the paper towel-lined baking tray.

*Money Saving Tip* Tuesday #1 - Over use of Baby Wipes

I'm very good at using coupons and hunting down deals, but when it comes to life at home - I'm horrible at wasting paper towels, paper tissues, baby wipes, etc. It's so much easier to grab an already moist baby wipe to clean up a spill than getting a cloth. I'm working VERY hard at reducing my daily waste.

I have recently discovered that "old school" ways sometimes (actually more than "some" times) work better than what's normal in the society right now.
For the first 15 months of my motherhood life, I used baby wipes to wipe my son's bum everytime he pooped (sorry for the details, but how can baby's poop be gross?). Lately it's turned into a big challenge to wipe and diaper him. So I decided that instead of using 6 wipes at a time, I would just stick him in the tub and wash him. Result? I've now cut down from using 1 package of wipes per week, to 1 package per month! Michael loves the tub and now I don't have to deal with him screaming and kicking while I'm trying to change him.
I actually feel embarrassed now that I've used wipes for so long for something so unnecessary! That's how TV commercials can get to you when you don't have experience with raising babies.
I've been turning more and more to old ways to do things and I'm hoping to keep sharing with you.
P.S. I've also found that unlike disposable diapers where no-brand ones are just horrible - no brand wipes are just fine. I use Target's brand of sensitive wipes and they've been wonderful.

What's your take on cleaning "dirty" babies?

Amazon $15 Gift Certificate Giveaway 11/11 US&CAN

What's my goal with this blog? I want to do reviews/giveaways, as simple as that! I sit at home all day long and I'm beyond bored. One of my passions in life is trying out products. I don't even want to think about how much money I spent on 'stuff' before I learned how to use coupons. At the moment, I obviously don't work and living on one salary completely cut me off from trying anything new.
I realize that before I can contact any companies I need to build my follower list. And this is where I hope that you will help me out!

For fellow bloggers: Do you have any tips on how to contact companies for reviews/giveaways or do you know which companies are willing to work with smaller blogs like mine? I'd really appreciate your help!

The Queen DVD (2006) Giveaway 10/31 US&CAN

I asked you guys whether or not you would enter a giveaway for a used DVD/CD and all of you said that you would!

The second DVD I'd like to give away is The Queen. I personally haven't seen it, but it's supposed to be a great movie.

Synopsis from amazon.com: Winner of the Academy Award® for Best Actress, Dame Helen Mirren gives a spellbinding performance in THE QUEEN, the provocative story behind one of the most public tragedies of our time — the sudden death of Princess Diana. In the wake of Diana's death, the very private and tradition-bound Queen Elizabeth II (Mirren) finds herself in conflict with the new Prime Minister, the slickly modern and image-conscious Tony Blair. THE QUEEN, also starring Academy Award® Nominee James Cromwell (Best Supporting Actor, BABE, 1995), takes you inside the private chambers of the Royal Family and the British government for a captivating look at a vulnerable human being in her darkest hour, as a nation grieving for its People's Princess waits to see what its leaders will do. Suspenseful, heartfelt and riveting, it's a fascinating story you won’t soon forget.

Prize:
One lucky winner will receive the The Queen DVD
(This DVD has been opened, but is in like-new condition)

Clorox Green Works Review

I love that there is now such a wide variety of safer cleaning products. I think the world has finally realized how much we have been harming the planet and ourselves by using harsh chemicals in our every day life.
My son Michael is almost 17 months old now. Needless to say, he knows how to open every cupboard in the house and of course knows how to open bottles. I can't have my eyes on Michael 24/7 and during those seconds when I turn away, he's already pulled something dangerous out. For obvious reasons, I can't afford to have any poisonous products in the house.

I saw a great deal on Green Works products and I took advantage of it. Each bottle was on sale for $1.88 and I had a coupon $5 off 3 bottles. Including all the taxes and discounts it ended up being $0.44 a bottle! I got the Natural Dishwashing Liquid, Toilet Bowl Cleaner & Bathroom Cleaner. I have now had a chance to try all of them out and wanted to share my thoughts with you.

Green Works Bathroom Cleaner
I thoroughly sprayed my filthy bathtub and left it for about 10 minutes. I then used a dish sponge to wipe the tub. The soap scum just lifted off with the sponge. I was pleasantly surprised and definitely satisfied!
In the past, when I've used any kinds of cleaners, I've had to wear gloves, because my hands would dry out and start itching. This time, since the product is natural, I cleaned with my bare hands. I didn't experience any itchiness afterwards, just a tiny bit of the dryness, but it went away fairly soon. The only thing I didn't like is the pretty strong smell.

Green Works Toilet Bowl Cleaner
My toilet always forms a pink ring inside. Not sure what it's from and why it's pink! The directions on this cleaner said to spray just enough to cover the whole toilet bowl. Other toilet bowl cleaners I've used always said to liberally dump half the bottle down the toilet. I left the cleaner in for about 10 minutes and gently scrubbed the walls of the bowl with a toilet brush. The result - a super clean and shiny toilet! I usually clean my toilet with just vinegar and it does a great job, but I think it's necessary to use an actual cleaner once in a while, just to make sure that there's no bacteria growing inside.

Green Works Dishwashing Liquid
The last product I tried was the dishwashing liquid. This one is the most important to me, because it has the most contact with bare hands. I ditched the chemical cleaners a while ago and has been trying out the natural ones. I've found that while they take twice the time to cut the grease, they still do an amazing job on the dishes. The grease timing is something I'm willing to sacrifice for my skin's safety.
I only have two problems with this product - powerful scent & colouring. It's interesting, because I read on their website that colour is something their readers said was important to them in the product. I completely disagree, I say the less chemicals the better. It's not like the colouring is going to make it a stronger cleaning product, it's only there to make it look more interesting.

Overall, I'm definitely impressed with all 3 products and I would like to try more of them. It's a shame that my local store had a limited variety of Green Works, but had an endless variety of chemical cleaners.
I hope that all companies will stop producing chemical cleaners and make the switch to safer products.

Disclosure:
I did not receive anything from anyone to write this post. I bought the products and shared my genuine opinion.

Photo Moment + Food Dilemma

I realized that I have to stop being frustrated wtih Rogers and start appreciating what I have in life right now.

This is Michael eating his morning oatmeal with his hands (the spoon was too much to handle).
This is the only meal of the day which he loves.

He is the pickiest eater I've ever come accross. He literally eats nothing, which is causing him to be underweight.
He is 16 months and only eats oatmeal, rice, grilled cheese, bread, crackers & cookies. It's an everyday struggle for me, because I don't want him to be starving, but when I try to give him food, he turns his head away and wants nothing to do with it. If I give him a plate of something, he just turns it upside down and runs off.

Any suggestions on how to trick him into eating?

Rogers Disaster

I recently wrote a post about customer service at Rogers. I was frustrated, because I was turned down at their office and then couldn't get through to them via phone.
My 3 year contract with them has expired and all I wanted to do was switch to Pay-As-You-Go. It's been over 2 weeks now and they STILL haven't switched me!
I don't want to bore you with details, but I will post a timeline of what's happened so far.

9/30 - told at a Rogers office that it can't be done there, I have to phone.

10/01 - after being on hold three times for 20 minutes I put in a request for a change and was told that it would automatically happen on October 9th.

10/10 - nothing has happened, I phoned and confirmed the switch and was transferred to customer relations where I was informed that the office is closed. I sent them an e-mail and was told by the website that I would get an answer within 24hrs.

10/11 - nothing has happened, no e-mails either. I phone back and now I'm told that it takes 3 days to do the transfer to pay-as-you-go and I should phone back tomorrow if nothing happens.

10/12 - nothing has happened. I sent another e-mail to them.

10/13 - nothing has happened. I phoned again and now they told me that it takes 3 business days to complete the transfer. And it should switch today or tomorrow. I then talked to their customer relations department. On top of this all, apparently I was supposed to pay daily for my current plan, even though I'm not using the phone and it's their fault that I'm waiting for the change. I said no WAY!

I mean, SERIOUSLY??? I could've gone to another wireless provider and wouldn't have to wait for my billing cycle to be over to get onto a new plan with them. But if I want to stay with the same company, I apparently have to wait for over 2 weeks! Why didn't I go to another company? What's the point? They're only nice to you when you're signing up with them. After that they don't really care.

I've been SO upset for the past 2 weeks.
Lesson learned - definitely can't rely on anyone to get things done.

The Women DVD (2008) Giveaway 10/22 US&CAN

Lately, I've been selling my old DVDs & CDs on eBay. I figured that a dollar is better than clutter. Couple years ago my collection was a treasure to me, it's amazing how quickly interests change!
I have lots that didn't sell and I thought to myself - why not give them away?
The first one I'd like to give away is The Women. I personally haven't seen it, because I have absolutely no time to watch anything these days.

Synposis: Mothers, daughters, wives, friends: These are the women of The Women. Based on Clare Boothe Luce's Broadway success and the hit 1939 movie, this sparkling update (from Murphy Brown creator Diane English) set in Manhattan and featuring an all-star, all-female cast says a lot about what it means to be today's woman and all of it's funny! The story starts with beautiful, smart, accomplished Mary Haines (Meg Ryan) discovering her husband is cheating on her. It's a time when friends are needed, so Mary's gal pals (Annette Bening, Jada Pinkett Smith and Debra Messing) and mother (Candice Bergen) rally round with advice, cocktails and shopping. The Wife vs. the Other Woman (Eva Mendes): Sharpen your claws for a timeless and wonderfully witty battle.

Prize:
One lucky winner will receive the The Women DVD

Big Skinny Giveaway

A while ago, I won a Big Skinny Trixie Tri-fold Wallet. I was extremely happy when I won it, but when I tried it out it just didn't seem to click with me. I'm a huge purse, huge wallet kinda girl. I don't believe in selling something I won from a giveaway blog, so lucky for you, I'd like to do my first giveaway!

Review:
Let me tell you more about this wallet. The company isn't lying, it's definitely the skinniest wallet I've ever seen. I fit about 25 various plastic cards inside and it still remained thin! It's got 2 slots for bills, a coin section with a zipper, 9 card holders, 1 I.D. card holder with a window and a couple other sections where you can hide stuff. I like the feel of the nylon micro-fiber material it's made of. The only thing that I don't like about this wallet is the smell of the material. But I'm sure it would air out in time.
It's a neutral color which means it will never go out of style. It's your basic black wallet which every lady needs to have in their collection along with a pair of black shoes, black bag, black skirt - you get the point!

Interesting Big Skinny Facts:
- Big Skinny wallets are made using an advanced version of the nylon micro-fiber material that made Prada famous.
- Big Skinny serves many uses as a weekend wallet, a sports wallet, an evening-out wallet, part-time wallet, and a travel wallet.
- Big Skinny is water resistant - it dries out in 1-2 hours from a full soak or accidental machine wash.
- Big Skinny weights less than an ounce (regular wallets weight 3-6 ounces).
- Big Skinny's extra-wide pockets each fit 3-6 plastic cards.
- Big Skinny wallets have unique rubberized lining which makes it harder to lose cards and cash.
- Shipping is only $2.45 to USA & Canada.
- Go to BigSkinny.net to check out more of their awesome wallets.

Prize:
One lucky winner will receive the Big Skinny Trixie Tri-fold Wallet in tuxedo black.

Giveaway Coming Up!

I started this blog a couple days ago for the purpose of listing some great blog giveaways. Already, I have my first giveaway lined up! I am very excited about this. If it goes well, it's definitely something I'd like to pursue!
I'm not working at the moment (looking for a job though). And I'm at a point where I need to do something to keep myself busy (besides entering giveaways). My son, at 16 months, absolutely hates it when I am on the computer. I have no idea how other blogger mamas do it! Any advice?
